Q: BUG in process suhelperd: over-released legacy external boost assertions (1 total, 1 external, 0 legacy-external)

Hello,

I just formatted my MacBook Pro and installed a fresh installation of Yosemite. I always have this bug which makes my log file full:

BUG in process suhelperd[193]: over-released legacy external boost assertions (1 total, 1 external, 0 legacy-external)

I can give you a hint that it's maybe about Software Updater Helper.. but dunno how to solve it.

Thanks,

JF

I did fresh install of Yosemite for:

    Mac Pro (Trash can)

    Wifi off

Daily freezes --> Yosemite reinstalled yesterday.

Still every time I open App Store I get hundreds lines of:

kernel: BUG in process suhelperd[X]: over-released legacy external boost assertions (1 total, 1 external, 0 legacy-external)

But it have not freezed yet after fresh install (fingers crossed).

I've done two fresh installs and it is still doing the same thing. The only common denominator seems to be yosemite and safari and a total freeze... no dock no option command escape, only hard restart...

Come on Apple fix this crap. If I want a machine that I have to continually restart, I can go get a PC with Windows. I thought Apple was better than that. Ever since Steve passed Apple has went downhill. Snow Leopard was amazing and rock solid, but they had to keep upgrading and changing until I finally had to up grade and Yosemite is crap. I don't know what they are thinking.

The last thing in console is "the _dirtyjetsammemorylimit key is not available on this platform" right before the system crash.

I had the same problem, & my search led me to this page. After reading comments, I tried the following which seems to have cleared the problem:

In Yosemite, I clicked on the app store, then clicked on 'Purchases.' I got a message asking if I wanted to see if there were any programs there were partially downloaded, if so, re-log into account. Upon doing so, I was there were 3 apps that were only partially downloaded, which then finished downloading all the way. After they installed, i checked for updates, restarted, checked the console again, & saw that the topic message was no longer present, indicating it was probably resolved.

What I think happened was: I had installed a recent version of the apps, later mistakenly clicked on earlier versions of the apps in the 'purchased' section, realized they were the outdated versions & stopped the partial downloads. When updates popped up for the apps & i tried to download them, the system became confused as to where to apply the update, to the latest installed version, or the  partially downloaded 'legacy' version. My theory is the system was trying to 'boost' install  & finish up the legacy install so it could then evaluate & apply the most current update.

I am seeing lots of the errors in the Console as described by others.  I don't  have any kernel panics, but the errors are a puzzling annoyance.

I followed the advice of Kellya74u and checked for updates in the App Store.

I had to log in to my account and I checked for unfinished downloads (under the Store menu). There were no unfinished downloads.

The console is still reporting the error.

    I am running 10.10.2 on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

I followed the advice given and

    1. Cleared my NVRAM

    2. Ran EtreCheck 4x to clean up everything with the exception of this launch agent: com.paragon.NTFS.auth.plist

How do I get rid of it when it's not showing up in my Library Launch Agents nor in my Launch Daemons?   I tried to find the service that is calling it (?) but couldn't find it or figure it out.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I'm now going to "use" my iMac to get some real work done and see if things improve.

    Hi there,

Same here ONCE or TWICE per DAY since Yosemite 10.10 update with :

    Macbook Pro 6,2

    Mid 2010 15"

    i5 2,4Ghz

and... for the first time tonight for my

    Macbook Air 4,1

    Mid 2011 11"

    i5 1,6Ghz

    For both :

Kernel Panic ! and then the console.app put that :

    16/3/15 23:48:48,000 kernel[0]: BUG in process suhelperd[322]: over-released legacy external boost assertions (0 total, 0 external, 0 legacy-external)

It is really disturbing when your're working and I can't do nothing to resolve it (Already did smc nvram reset, fresh install). I suggest that the 10.10 buggys graphics are in cause. Anyone downgraded to Marvericks after that? Does it "solve" that damned Kernel Trap?

Good luck to resolve that, It touch all machines even VM & Hackintosh.

I am not saying this will work, but I was have something very similar happen with my Mac Pro ever since upgrading to Yosemite, it would lock up about every 2-3 days, totally freeze to the point I had to practically unplug the thing to unfreeze it and having tried literally every solution I could think of from reinstalling the system to running scripts in terminal I found someone on some board suggest to --> Shut off speak recognition, trash com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.systempreferences.plist, relaunch finder and restart.

I was pretty desperate and could not see how this could hurt except lose a few settings that I would have to redo. For whatever reason after rearranging my desktop and messing with my view option the machine has been running for about 3 weeks straight now

I've seen several people mention being connected to Active Directory (AD). One person, early on, even said that separating from their school's Active Directory services fixed the problem for him.

Is it perhaps the case that everyone with this problem has a computer connected to some Active Directory server? This is often done on work-owned computers, and schools often make AD services available as well. If this is related to the errors like "kernel BUG in process suhelperd over-released legacy external boost assertions," it would also explain why disabling your network access might make the errors go away. AD connections problem aren't attempted when you have no network access at all.

I can see that I'm using AD on my computer by going to System Preferenecs -> User & Groups, then clicking on Login Options at the bottom of the user list. At the bottom of the right-hand panel that appears, I have "Network Account Server: <MyCompany>." I'm an Admin user on my machine, so I can unlock the preferences and click on the "Edit…" button. That gives me an interface for opening the Directory Utility (also found at /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Directory Utility.app ).

So, is everyone else with this problem also using Active Directory? If so, the question is whether this particular error message in the Console log really causing crashing, or is just an annoying and mostly-pointless error message that actually causes no real problems.

I am not running AD, nor have I ever, and my MBP suffers nicely from this issue. Early 2011 MBP. Definitely see the correlation with suhelperd in the logs after a crash. For me, having bigs apps open like PowerPoint or Virtual Box seem to make it happen more often.

I've had it happen on both the discrete and internal video cards. Apple store did their diagnostics, looking for the Radeon issue, they found nothing. Just shrugged.

As others have noted, this just started happening one day, about 4 weeks ago. Before that, almost 5 years of rock solid stability.

Has anyone here had their system board replaced under the 2011 MBP Radeon service campaign AND still experiencing the problem? I am starting to get AMD Radeon GPU errors now with the crashes.

I can't tell if it's software crashing the hardware or hardware crashing the software.

I have heard this relates to mozilla and:

"In none of these cases does this bug make any difference. In other words, Gestalt() is never used (directly or indirectly) to check whether the OS version is 10.10.X or above, or 10.9.X or below. So though this bug is a bit embarrassing, it isn't absolutely necessary to get it fixed before the Yosemite release.

The following is actually never called (it's in dead code)"

I do think it has something to do with third party software mixed with browsers that causes some type of kernel panic. I have got rid of most of my third party software and the freezes are happening to me now about every 3 weeks as opposed to every 3 days. I am wondering if a new graphics card may help, my vram may be getting overwhelmed somehow. But I am not sure, I have just about tried everything.
