Q: Warranty expired after 4 months

hi I bought my iPhone 5s 4 months ago ( brand new) and according to warranty checker I am out. I would like to know how is it possible. I thought that Apple provides 1 year and doesn't matter who you are or where are you from

You purchased it brand new 4 months ago - where did you buy it?

Sounds like you bought a refurbished unit. Typically, the warranty for such items is 90 days.

Full price refurbished units have full 1 year warranty.

If you pay for refurb as an out of waranty replacement, they have 90 days or remainder of regualr warranty, whichever is longer.

Ah! That's different from older refurb warranties I've read.

It's been this way for Apple products for quite a long time.

Well, I've purchased a couple of refurb items directly from Apple over the years, and for both, it specifically stated a 90 warranty. Nothing extra or longer. Just sayin'.

Just hang on to your receipt, it's your proof of purchase despite what the checker says.

Actually, fax it in and get the info updated.

One could, but it's still best to keep the hard copy receipt should there be a dispute about the date.

I read a while ago that the online checker is based on when Apple ships the item and when that item is expected to sell. They know that the checker won't be 100% accurate and that is why they have a way to update it. If it is dramatically off (such as in this case) they will most likely require a receipt or proof of purchase of some sort. If you bought from a legitimate site and can provide some sort of proof of purchase, you shouldn't have any problems getting warranty service if needed.

It's based on when the item is reported as sold, which may or may not be when it is actually sold by the retailer.

Yes. I was not suggesting to get rid of the receipt. Simply get the date changed now rather than waiting till it is needed.
