How do I open a garageband 10.band file in garageband '11 (6)?

A friend made a garageband file of 4 tracks in garageband version 10 (the latest version). He has sent me the file to 'mix' but I need to convert the file type, which I can't do as I don't have version 10.

I have garageband version '11 (6), the previous version, but it won't allow me to open this file in there. Is there anything else I can do to convert to a pro tools session or to get the file to open in '11?

Note: I can't download the new garageband 10, as I would need to update my operating system. Last time I did that, my entire computer was wiped.

If all you really need is the raw audio data, you can Right Click (or Ctrl + click) on the file and click to show package contents. In the Media > Audio Files folder, you will find the AIF files of the audio. You import these into GarageBand, mix it down, and send an MP3 to your friend. Yes, all the session data will be lost, but the audio is still there.

You cannot open GarageBand files created by a newer Garageband version in an older GarageBand Version. Your GarageBand '11 is probably version 6.0.5 (the last GarageBand '11 version) or older, so you cannot open projects modified in GarageBand 10. Your friend should be able open your GarageBand projects, however, since GarageBand is backward compatible and version 10 can open version 6.x.x projects.
