Backup and restore Messages app

I Just got a new Mac, I'm starting with a fresh Yosemite install. I want to copy all the iMessages from my old Mac onto the new one.

I Tried copying these folders from the old Mac to the new Mac, no luck. Messages opens with the 3 or 4 messages that were in there before prior to replacing the folders.

~/Library/Messages

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat

Does anyone have a definitive guide to backing up and restoring complete Messages app history in Yosemite?

Ok I got it working. All these steps mightn't be necessary but this is how I got it working.

1) Open Messages on both Macs and go Preferences > Accounts > iMessage > Sign Out

2) Copy these folders and override from old Mac to new Mac

~/Library/Messages

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat

3) Restart new Mac

4) Open Messages and sign in to iMessages again
