Q: Yosemite does not wakeup both screens after sleep

Ever since I upgraded my Mac book Pro with the Yosemite,  my computer has been having trouble waking from sleep on the external monitor.   The Mac Book display comes up fine after sleeping; however, the monitor that I have hooked to the Mac book's thunderbolt port stays black and does not come on or activate from sleep.  To fix the problem, I have to unplug the Thunderbolt VGA dongle, wait 15 seconds, and plug dongle back into thunderbolt port.  After plugging the dongle back into the Mac book, the monitor activates (picture comes on).  This fixes the problem until the next time the Mac book goes to sleep.  Then I have to do the same thing over again.  I did not have this type of problem before I updated to Yosemite.  Any Suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem on my iMac, hooked up to an LED TV.

It seems to be somewhat sporadic behaviour though as it does not always happen.

I am having a similar problem, using dual monitors and a mac mini. The progress bar appears on the B monitor, but does not progress, even after 24 hours. When the B monitor is unplugged the other sometimes works or sometimes is frozen on the log in screen, with mouse pointer able to scroll but no ability to click or type with keyboard.

When the computer sleeps it will wake to the progress bar and either 1) remain stuck if 2 monitors attached or 2) finish and restart, as if after a crash, when one monitor attached.

My macbook air also wakes to progress bar sporadically. I have not hooked it to another monitor yet.

Mac mini early 2013, macbook air early 2013.

Same problem since I upgraded to Yosemite: after my macbook pro retina wakes up from sleep by pressing the space bar, only a black screen and a mouse is visible.  Extremely annoying and never had this problem before the upgrade.

You might try a PRAM reset.  OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM  I had these issues periodically up until the latest update.  I have not had them reoccur since but now have an issue with the display arrangement after a restart.  Your particular issue has had quite a bit of attention in this community in the past.  I actually thought that it was now solved based on my own experience.

I'm wondering whether there is any further  resolution to this issue?  My Macbook Pro, 2 months old, worked fine with monitor until a couple of weeks ago, now the monitor does not light up after computer monitor is dark for any reason, sleep or not.  It can be resolved by turning the monitor on and off, which of course is a temporary fix only.  I have tried resetting PRAM as suggested, to no avail.  I was not able to locate the mentioned "quite a bit of attention in this community in the past," so if someone could me direct me there, I would be grateful.

After going to sleep my MBP has issues...

After bringing it around from its deep sleep (it wakes up very slowly) it greets with with the 'drive was unplugged without being safely unmounted warning', my usb keyboard does not work - oh and the thunderbolt cinema display will not - er ...display. All app windows have been reorganised onto the MBP screen.

Restarting won't resolve it - the Cinema Display thunderbolt screen or attached USB devices do not respond. Its only a shutdown and fresh start-up that resolves this.

I really do look forward to a fix for this but I am doubtful.

Does anyone know if upgrading to El Capitan is a solution to resolve this?
