Hi,

If this is an ID registered at and via AIM/AOL then you need to use their Password recovery system.

Start here https://settings.aim.com/

The Sign In option will display the normal ID and Password text field boxes and also a Forgot Password option.

If you no longer have access to the Email account linked at set up you might have to choose any On Screen method they offer you. In which case you will need the Security Question answers.

IF on the other hand you are using an Apple ID ending in @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com then you need to use your Apple ID password (this does have to be 16 characters or less to work with the AIM servers).

As of June 30th 2014 @mac.com and @me.com names will only work in version iChat 6.01 and above (Messages). This is due to security changes.

These IDs will work in the higher versions.
