Do you mean a Mail account?
System Preferences > Internet Accounts > select the account > click the minus sign on the bottom left
You can also delete the account from Mail/Preferences/Accounts using the minus sign at the bottom. The set it up again.

My husband and i are still having problems sending emails for our BT accounts through Apple Mail.
I'm using OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, have tried deleting accounts and have setting them up again but still can't send emails, very frustrating, so using BT home page now.
What does Mail/Window/Connection Doctor Show? If the server is red, select it and look at the Show Details box.
Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
Hi, The INCOMING mail is showing GREEN, the OUTGOING is showing RED. Have deleted these accounts and restored them, restarted computer and still no joy so we're going to take our accounts out of Apple Mac Mail and use the BT Website for our BT Mail.
It seems your outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings are wrong.
Who is BT? Check their support site for the proper settings.

In Mail > Preferences > Accounts > select your BT account > on the Account Information tab click the dropdown next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and select Edit SMTP Server List...
Hi, thank you for your reply, on the account information page outgoing mail (SMTP) it reads btinternet.com, when I click on edit SMTP server I try to change the port from 465 to 587 as soon as I click ok it reverts back to 465. Also on the server details say mail.btinternet.com but on the account information it just says btinternet.com is this correct? BT stands for British Telecom
Make sure you have SSL checked.
mail.btinternet.com is correct.
SMTP
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com
Port: 465 (this may not be automatically populated on selection of SSL, so you'll need to check this)
SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)
Authentication: PLAIN
Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part
Password: your btinternet password
How do I fully delete an email account from my Apple Mail app on my iMac?
When I go here: Mail > Preferences Mail > Accounts
I got the message that I needed to delete it from my Internet Accounts.
When I go here: System Preferences > Internet Accounts > select the account >
I cannot click the minus sign on the bottom left to delete the account because it does not appear in the list.
Yet the email account still shows up in my email logs with errors that it cannot connect.
The email account no longer appears in Apple Mail as I have deleted that domain and no longer use it, so the email was deleted at the server level. However, again, the email account still shows up in my email logs with errors that it cannot connect.
This is driving me bananas!
