Install Bootcamp on Mac Mini late 2014 Yosemite Fails?

Trying to install bootcamp with Win 8.1 pro on a Mac Mini (Late 2014) under Yosemite and get to the screen on Win 8 side which says 'Where do you want to install Windows?' and I choose the "Drive 0 Partition 4: BOOTCAMP" and the next button never becomes enabled.

There is a message saying "Windows can't be installed on drive 0 partition 4" and an addition message box which says "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS".

At this point I'm dead in the water -- cannot proceed.

Formatting the drive doesnt work and just screws up the whole process.User uploaded file

I've redone this quite a few times and end up in the same situation everytime.

I also tried with Win7 install I had but that failed completely and it never really proceeded after rebooting from Mac side.

Any ideas?

Is bootcamp busted on Yosemite? I dont easily have another machine I can try it on.

Is bootcamp busted on Mac Mini? Has anyone tried bootcamp on new late 2014 Mac Mini?

Thanks

James

It is for the problem of USB stick!!!!! I tried to use bootcamp to install windows on Mac Mini 2014! I had this problem which cost me almost a weeks' time before I got it solved. The cause of the problem was simple but beyond my knowledge - the compatibility (or things like that) of the USB stick! I got it done by using another usb stick, a quality Kingston Traveller 8GB. All the problem in issue was gone, with Windows installation proceeded smoothly and successfully. I got stuck where "jamessnive" experienced. I still can't make out why the change of quality USB stick could make the difference. But it did! For those who use cheap usb stick, the installation might fail. I bought my own Mac Mini 2014 from an experienced dealer in Shanghai who had had similar complaints from customers like me, and who instructed me to use a quality usb stick and say "it will work definitely. Apple won't let your down. It must be your hardware problem...". Wish this would help.

Ok, I have the same problem and I have a hunch. It is definitely a USB problem according to many sources. Now I can't make it work with my San disk cruiser blade which is a ver good stick. The guy earlier in this thread said he had no problem whatsoever using a Kingston Traveller. When I checked that out on Amazon it stated that the Kingston is a USB3 stick. My Cruzer Blade is USB2. I Know for a fact that BCA installs USB3 drivers on Win7 Pro. Just a coincidence? that his worked and ours didn't? I don't think so & I have just ordered the same drive. I will keep you posted. Fingers crossed

Having recently had this problem, and overcoming it personally, maybe this will help.

What the problem seems to be, is that Windows still has issues installing while there extraneous usb devices attached to the system (specifically any read/writable hdds) . What I found to be the solution was very simple in the long run.

A) Remove all extra USB devices. (USB Hubs, external drives, etc.)

Leave only attached the boot device (image of windows to be installed from - dvd boot drive, usb stick etc), keyboard, mouse, and

usb drive with Windows Support Software (if not otherwise take care of by BootCamp)

B) Boot back into the Mac OS (reboot your mac, and hold down the Option key during the chime, and hold it after a screen will come up asking you

which drive you want to boot from. It's pretty obvious from there)

C) Load the BootCamp Assistant and start over. You will have to remove the existing partition and re-create one.

Do not plug in any of other usb devices until the installation of Windows has completed. Windows has a VERY limited driver set and capability while in DOS Installation mode.

I hope this helps someone. It helped me.
