Q: Password reset on 10.9.5?

HI all

I was trying to update Flash on my step-dad's Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.5. When doing this of course it asks for a password, but I can not remember or figure it out. He may have updated and with his bad memory just cannot remember it. Just wondering if there is an easy way to reset this. The password hint I get does not help either. Also I have been told that you can use your Apple ID, but I am not sure this computer has one.

I found baltwo's replay to be helpful. Following the links allowed to figure out how to rest the password. The only thing is that know I get the following error message "A Keychain cannot be found to store Safari." I then get the option of "Reset to Defaults" or "Cancel." Not use what happens if I reset to defaults, so I just click on cancel.

Any suggestions on what to do there?
