Q: i have two home screens

I've recently been plugging my macbook into my TV screen to get an extra screen for doing work and stuff and now i have two identical home screens when my macbook isn't even plugged into my TV, anyone know how to fix?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I don’t know what a “home” screen is. Can you describe what you are seeing?

oh okay, what i mean by home screen is the screen you first see when you start up with and you have your dock bar at the bottom with all the icons on and that main strip at the top with the date and battery life and so on and with your background and stuff, i have two of those but the aren't acting as one if that make sense, like i can change the background on one and it won't affect the other, i haven't got my mac plugged in to anything other than the charger, just its acting like i have it plugged into another screen which i don't, does that help you?

Go to the upper right hand corner near the clock, you'll see an icon in the menu bar that looks like a TV with an upward facing arrow. Click that, then "Turn Display Mirroring Off"

You'll then have an extended single desktop.

i figured it out how to fix it, press F3 to see all your screens active and you can see the number of desktops and you can close the second desktop screen with the a cross that appears in the left hand corner
