Q: phone unlock

Heres the lowdown

i bought a phone off ebay and it is locked to orange so i thought i could unlock it when i received it but i cannot due not being the original account holder of the phone

i was wondering if the original account holders sim had to be in the phone for it to be unlocked saving me from sending the phone back, so will it still unlock without a sim inside?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1

Yes, you need a valid SIM in the iPhone to unlock it.
No, it does not need to be the original owners SIM.
