I have an iMac and iPhone 5s
when someone calls me on my iPhone, and it rings... the FaceTime icon comes up on my iMac and the ringtone comes through the iMac
and it continues to ring even after i have answered my phone. How do i stop this?

It should not continue to ring.
You can disable it here:
On your phone:
Settings > FaceTime > turn iPhone Cellular Calls off
On the iPhone, go to Settings/ FaceTime/ and turn "iPhone Cellular Calls" OFF. This is a new feature of iOS 8.

if like me you have updated all of your Apple devices to the latest Yosemite and IOS 8.1 you will also notice (if you have on) that an incoming call will also ring on your iPad as well. Its a little confusing at first when all devices so of go mad and ring at the same time but I really like it now I know what to expect. I haven't yet worked out how to make a call from my Macbook but hope to soon. Have fun
You can make a phone call from your Mac by clicking on a phone number in a Safari, Contacts or Calendar.
This is unsatisfactory as it rings on my work computer and my home computer. I want it to ring on my home computer but notthe office one is there a way to tun it off just one computer?
Of course. Either use a different iCloud account for your work computer, or if you must use the same account between computers then change the FaceTime setting on your work computer only (in FaceTime's Preferences, uncheck "iPhone Cellular Calls").
