Japanese subtitles not displaying the font correctly

I was given a .txt subtitle file with timecode and Japanese text. At first if i loaded up the .txt file in TextEdit, the Japanese text would not show up so i changed my preferences in Text Edit to open files with Japanese (Shift JIS) and now it displays the text in Japanese.
But if i place this file into a subtitle track, it shows up without the Japanese text and just the weird symbols/characters.

I have tried to select the text/symbols and then change the font to Osaka or Hiragino, but they still keep those weird symbols/characters.

Does anyone know why DVD SP is not displaying the correct text when Text Edit is displaying it correct?
Am i doing something wrong?

Also.. In Font Book, the fonts for Osaka and Hiragino show the Japanese text.
Just curious why DVD SP can't display this font or why it is only showing gibberish.

I also made an .stl file from the .txt file and used this...
The font will still not change even though i am telling it to switch to Osaka.

$FontName = Osaka
$FontSize = 15
//The following subtitles are for scene one.

Any ideas?
