Problems with a FAT16 USB Flash Memory

I tried to read a FAT16 formatted USB Flash Drive on my MacBook Pro with retina display (mid 2012) with Yosemite (10.10) and it would not mount on my computer when I connected it directly to my computer.

I tried other FAT32 formatted USB Flash Drives the same way and they mounted on my computer without a problem.

Afterwards I tried to read the same FAT16 formatted USB Flash Drive on a friend's MacBook with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and it mounted on his computer without a glitch.

Then I tried mounting the FAT16 formatted USB Flash Drive vía an external USB hub and the Flash Drive mounted and worked fine, but when I tried again to read the Flash Drive connecting it directly to my MacBook Pro it did not mount.

What is going on? I have no idea and I have found no leads or anything to help me.

I have already restarted the computer and it still does not mount unless I use the external USB hub

I don't know if it's a software or hardware issue but it is really frustrating.

Could someone please help me?
