problems with finder when searching and external hard drive

When i use spotlight to search through my external hard drive, it starts to show results then bounces back to one or two, then a full set of results and then back to one or two, but it doesn't stay long enough for me to actually get what i'm looking for, its driving me nuts as i use it while i'm dj'ing as not all my tracks are in one place. Please can someone help me resolve this issue?.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions, then in Spotlight prefs add the External drives to the Privacy Pane, then Repair all External Drives, reboot & remove those drives from the privacy pane, give Spotlight a chance to reindex those drives.
