Q: Apple needs to stop forcing me to update Flash

Sorry, but that doesn't do it. I tried that when the forced updates issue first came up.

It's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations. If Apple enforces this and other security protocols people complain about the inconvenience. If they don't, people fail to observe security and get compromised and lose data, and then it's all Apple's fault for not enforcing security.

The real problem is that Flash is so flaky that Adobe have been having to update it every few days.

Yes, this is the real issue. The best possible outcome will be when website builders stop using/requiring Flash, as more and more are.

2016 and this is still happening...

Is it just me who finds it odd when a high ranking user spreads misinformation, multiple times, with all confidence in the world, only to slip away quietly without any admission or retraction when proved wrong?

You cannot visually discern whether the dialog that appears with an out of date Flash plug-in is a scam or valid Apple dialog.

To be safe, I force-quit Safari, and then in System Preferences : Adobe Flash panel : Updates, I check for an available new version, and initiate the update from there. This takes me to the real Adobe web site, where the Flash installer is downloaded.

I open Safari with the shift key pressed to by-pass loading the previous page with the Flash out of date pop-up, clear history, and browser cache (option+command+E), and quit Safari. Then I install the Flash plug-in.
