iMac Retina 5K Display changes tones when waking from sleep -- Is this normal?

Every single time that I wake my Retina iMac from display or system sleep, the colors on the monitor seem to change tones twice:

  1. First the display goes from dim to slightly brighter (within first 1-3 seconds)
  2. Then the display goes from cooler (blues) to warmer (yellows) (within first 5-10 seconds)

Does this sound normal? Do you suspect the pixels are just warming up? I tried calibrating my display, but this doesn't fix it.

I wish AppleCare were a little more responsive to the issue... the least they could do is escalate it the Engineering team to address it. I think I might just try reaching out to AppleCare this week too. I'll reply back with my results. Thanks for actively engaging my curiosity in this thread, ItsInMyVeins! -- it's great to hear I'm not the only one out here with this issue. 😀

Wish others out there would chime in too! 😕

Same thing happening on my custom i7 4.0. The yellow tint was/is still a shocker. i am also struggling to accept the noice of the fans when running any game. Bioshock kicks them in even on the Menu page. I am comparing the color shift with my iMac 2012 which is very bluish compare to retina and also has much stronger backlight - almost 2 bars better. On the other hand, retina iMac has much better contrast. . Unfortunatelly the black is not black and when restarting iMac retina I even see some light leaking on edges of the display,

How many times do we have to learn not buying first gen product ((. I thought rock solid iMac design and retina on macbooks already fined tumed . . this can't go wrong. I am on my 2nd day and really considering of sending this machine back. Only if Apple can assure us, the colloring will improve during time and fans will be switch on only when temperatures are higher, I might reconsider.

I just heard back from Apple Care, and they think the color change might be an issue connected to having either Creative Cloud, battle.net or Chrome installed. I've got all three, so yeah. I'm gonna try to install OS X on a external hard drive to see if that removes the issue and if it does, then it's obviously a software issue. If not, well – back to square one.

Thanks for sharing your experience, mi.po. I, too, am a bit disappointed but hope we can come to a resolution here.

I don't have Creative Cloud, battle.net, or Chrome installed. But I do have Adobe CS5 & I know they have specific color profiles installed for photo editing (though I don't use any of them)... perhaps that could be causing a color shift? 😐 Seems hard to believe though when I have selected the default Mac display color settings selected.

Let us know if you have any luck when external-booting your Mac! Will be interesting to hear if this is the case.

Does the same on mine i7, 4.0. But I have to be honest - I pretty like the color tones of those 2seconds before the profile gets applied. And comparing my late 2012 iMac and my iPhone 5s screen, thats exactly what those machines are set to. More cooler and bluish tone. I wish I could fine tune the color calibration to my liking, but I can adjust the colors, not overall feel - which in our case is sepia/tint.

I just received my iMac 5K display and when waking up from sleep mode, it does a weird thing that I never seen on a mac before. When waking up from sleep the display takes a longer time to wake up first of all then my other macs, and then when it finally starts to light up it seems to pause slightly half way thru and then continues on to light up the whole way thru and then it seems to pause again and then adds the calibration to change the colors of the display. I brought it to an apple certified technicien at Jump + which is an Apple premium reseller and he saw the problem but didn't have an explanation, so he tried the demo iMac 5K display that they have on the sales flore and it did the same thing. Do you any of you have the same issue.

My iMac has the 4Ghz processor and the 4GB Radion video card with 24GB RAM with a 512 SSD

Thanks for your help.
