How can I prevent iPhoto from launching when I insert an SD card

Make sure of two settings: That iPhoto is set not to open/import "Preferences/General/Connecting Camera opens No Application" if you do not want IPhoto ever launching when a camera is connected, and then in Application, open Image Capture (make sure SD card is mounted/inserted).

Under devices, you should see the SD card.

Select it.

Lower LEFT there is a little triangle inside a box. Click that, and change the Connecting this camera opens "chose No Application" from the pull down.

Works for me.

can I remove iPhoto from my computer?

Yes. Drag it to the trash.

So, hasn't anyone figured this one out yet?

Have you tried this?

1. Open the Image Capture app
2. Select your SD Card
3. Click the little widget in the bottom right corner of the window
4. Select the program to launch, or "No application"

Thanks, this is in no way obvious. As with so many of OSX features it doesn't 'just work' at all, there's no mention of SD card or image import in the settings and users are forced to revert to Google for getting things done. If they have an active internet connection. This was only the second forum that I checked, so it didn't even take that long.

I notice that I have to do this with each SD card. Weird.

Open a Terminal window and then paste in the following text. Press ENTER and your problem will disappear.

thanks looks like the only way. if disabled in iphoto, it needs to be redone every time you format the sd card.

hope this command persists 🙂
