Q: Problem with App Store Telling Me I Need Update

Hi. I have a problem with my Oct 2013 Retina Macbook Pro (updated to Yosemite) telling me I need to update iMovie to 10.0.6. But the Screenshot shows that I already have updated it to 10.0.6.

I have tried the suggestions i could find here and on other Mac forums (such as hiding my Macintosh HD or Apps folder in the Spotter privacy tab) but it doesn't seem to help. I haven't been able to find any other version of the program to remove.

I'm new to Mac (this is my first one and I've had it less than a month), so please forgive me if I use PC terminology by mistake. Any suggestions on what to do to solve this problem? Or do I just need to uninstall the program? (I don't need it but tend to think of these programs as "save them in case you need them someday)

Thanks.

I haven't been able to find any other version of the program to remove.

Have you searched "This Mac" for it in the Finder?

Yes. I can find only one copy and the Get Info tells me it is Version 10.0.6

Back up all data before proceeding.

Quit the App Store if it's running. Force quit if necessary.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

defaults write -app "App Store" ShowDebugMenu YES

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal.

Launch the App Store. There should now be a menu labeled Debug in the menu bar at the top of the screen. From that menu, select

              Reset Application

    Quit again and relaunch. Test.

Optionally, remove the Debug menu by quitting the App Store and entering the command below in the same way as before:

defaults delete -app "App Store" ShowDebugMenu

OK, I tried that and no luck. The app remains saying it needs to be updated.

Are there any specific files I should be looking for to remove?

And thanks for the detailed instructions. It did help me in understanding what to do.

Besides the startup volume, are any other volumes (disks) mounted, and if so, are you sure the search scope was "This Mac"? If not, see below.

Rebuild the Spotlight index. If you try to search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, there will be an indication that indexing is in progress.

Yes, I did search "This Mac" and this was the result:

Choosing Get Info on iMovie shows this:

Since I am new to Macs maybe I am doing something wrong. So hopefully the screenshots will help

Ok, did the rebuilding of the index. I also repeated the previous instructions of using the "Reset" in the Debug menu.

Unfortunately, the App Store still says I need to update iMovie.

Please back up all data, then quit iMovie if it's running and drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash. Empty. The iMovie files you created won't be affected. Verify in Spotlght that there are now no copies of the app on your system. Download it from the App Store.

Thanks. That took care of it.

Hope I wasn't too big of a pain.
