How do I stop my iPad from ringing when my iPhone rings

after last update my iPad now rings when my iPhone rings. I also get my text messages and private messages on both devices at the same time. This is not good when my daughter has my iPad and gets to read what my husband and I are texting to each other. I need to stop the iPad from receiving the calls, texts and private messages. I am not a techs person so if I can't get help I'm going to look at android. I refuse to talk to Apple customer service with horrible English and 15 minute wait time.

This is continuity. See this support document. Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity The phone calls are because the two are signed in with the same Apple ID and are on the same Wi-Fi network. To stop that, go to Settings>FaceTime>iPhone cellular calls>OFF. The messages you will have to look at continuity and how you have Messages configured.

I talked to Bell tonight as I wondered if I answer the Ipad, is it a call on my Ipad for which I have no phone account however I have a shared data plan(and there is a phone number associated with the Ipad). They said they hadn't heard of this but thought it would be a phone call that I probably shouldn't answer without being charged. Can you explain that in this continuity mode that the answering of the phone is over wifi with the Ipad that I use data and not cellular. Cellular of course on the Iphone. I just checked and cellular data is turned off on the Ipad. I also just called my cell from my home phone and the Ipad rang as a Facetime call. When I tried on Airplane mode it did not ring. So is it a data call that is just coming through the Iphone and via wifi? Wow that is tricky to try and explain.
