Lag in Typing in Yosemite's Mail w/ External Apple Keyboard

Since upgrading to Yosemite I have been having a very annoying problem with delayed typing response in Mail when I have my external USB Apple keyboard (current model with numeric pad). It is a sporadic issue. Typing will be responsive, then there are 2-4 second delays in response. I have only witnessed the issue with Mail and when using the external keyboard. Problem does not occur in other programs or when using my MacBook Pro's built in keyboard. Nor did the problem exist prior to upgrading to Yosemite.

My equipment is a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. When on my desk, I have it connected to a 23" Apple Display (original LCD), USB Apple Keyboard, Logitech cordless Trackman, and a Drobo firewire external drive.

Has anyone else witnessed this issue? Or have an suggestions on correcting?

Thank you in advance!

Us Yosemite Mail keyboard laggies are't the only ones waiting for Apple to fix stuff under Yosemite:

While some of the comments at the bottom of the article are just a b*tch-fest, to me it all speaks of software from Apple being released before it is ready for prime-time. Or the Software QA department is napping...

I have a brand new iMac, fully loaded, that I have been using for about three weeks. Mail has begun to degrade (quickly) and I find that I will once again have to use Outlook, of which I had thought I had been able to dump when I upgraded the iMac. It's ridiculous AND irresponsible that Apple Mail is so flawed. I own a studio with 20+ iMacs, all less than 18 months old. And we find increasingly that we are afraid to update OSX for fear of what havoc it will wreak with our workdays. That we have to turn to MicroSoft, of all companies, to be safe in our Mac environment is so utterly ironic...Steve Jobs is spinning in his grave!

that's rather dramatic. i'm having this mail lag, but my GF, also on a macbook pro and yosemite, isn't. lots of people aren't having the issue. and for me, everything else in yosemite is stellar, fast, stable. i recently helped a friend with a graphics firm move 4 imacs (one brand new) to yosemite, and they're having a great experience (based around a shared drive, and lots of client interaction, sharing files, etc). yosemite is, in this respect, no different that most versions of OS X; lots of people are doing fine, and some have very detailed issues. am just anxious for a fix for the mail lag...

I agree about Yosemite in general. It's the 10.10.1 update that brought on the ruination of Mail. Is your cursor leaping backwards yet? That's a real hoot and a half.

I also have to agree that most people aren't experiencing this. That's always so with Apple software. I've usually been on the other side of these things, not having any problems but reading about a number of poor souls who obviously don't know what they're doing. I've NEVER had a problem with an OS X upgrade, not a single one, sot this time has been a shock.

similar experience here, and using OS X since 10.2. there have definitely been 'best" moments; for me, 10.6.8, and now 10.10. the 10.10.2 beta did not fix the mail lag (and it made my ipod shuffle not work with itunes! a common problem with the beta). so looking forward to the real 10.10.2...and what comes after that (which i will bet anyone will be 10.10.3)... 😎

My bit of perspective on the typing lag in Yosemite Apple Mail and other Yosemite frustrations:

In the past, only techs and impatient folks would install a new version of OS X on their primary Macs until it reached v3, advice I followed without fail.

Somehow, with Mavericks and Yosemite, ordinary users, myself included, started installing the new OS X not long after its initial release. My guess is that the change in our software behavior can be explained by our increasing comfort with our computers and iDevices and the very American behavior of having to have the newest whatever as soon as we can.

Because Yosemite has more radical changes than Mavericks did, more users are struggling with and complaining about glitches.

Any .0 version of system software is a public beta: it is only when real users with bazillion different Mac setups (both hardware and software) use the new OS that its glitches can be found. And then, the developers have to work out the kinks, sometimes introducing new kinks in the process. I don’t mean this as an apology for Apple or any other software/hardware developer.

I am equally frustrated by the typing lag in Mail on my 2011 MacBook Pro with its built-in keyboard as others who have posted and hope to see a fix soon. While waiting for the fix, I compose long emails in TextEdit and continue to be relieved that the typing lag does not mean my keyboard is failing as I suspected before I checked the Forums.
