Lag in Typing in Yosemite's Mail w/ External Apple Keyboard

Since upgrading to Yosemite I have been having a very annoying problem with delayed typing response in Mail when I have my external USB Apple keyboard (current model with numeric pad). It is a sporadic issue. Typing will be responsive, then there are 2-4 second delays in response. I have only witnessed the issue with Mail and when using the external keyboard. Problem does not occur in other programs or when using my MacBook Pro's built in keyboard. Nor did the problem exist prior to upgrading to Yosemite.

My equipment is a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. When on my desk, I have it connected to a 23" Apple Display (original LCD), USB Apple Keyboard, Logitech cordless Trackman, and a Drobo firewire external drive.

Has anyone else witnessed this issue? Or have an suggestions on correcting?

Thank you in advance!

Yosemite 10.10.1 was released today - I haven't had time to install it yet. Has anyone else?

Yes. I only needed a few seconds to launch Software Update and click the update button. Returned about five minutes later and all done.

Any luck with the text entry delay in Mail?

Sorry, but I've never seen this issue, so I can't comment on that, but I will tell you that Apple Mail was one of a handful of focus areas for this update with announced improvements for selected e-mail providers and Microsoft Exchange server, so perhaps you could let us all know.

Hi All,

I just updated my Mid-2010 MacBook Pro to 10.10.1. I don't usually use the Software Update mechanism, preferring to download the "Combo Updater" directly from Apple's downloads site here: OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 Update

I've only had 10.10.1 running for about 20 minutes now, but text entry in Apple Mail is smooth and crispy. I don't want to say "It's Fixed" but initial experience is looking good.

Fingers crossed I'm not premature in reporting this... Are others seeing an improvement?

Combo updates never show up until 10.x.2, so that's exactly the same one you would have gotten from Software Update.

I updated to 10.10.1 and am afraid the problem is still there... it has always been intermittent, so hard to pin down. Am using a bluetooth keyboard, and I have a bose minilink. Am under the impression when the Bose is connected, the problem gets worse. But the lag can be felt now and then even without the Bose. In any case, the system update has not cured the problem.

I do recall another discussion about audio delays when using BT headphones that many users experienced when Yosemite was first released. I suspect that BT is the root cause of both issues.

Except that the problem comes without bluetooth activated and using the keyboard on the macbook pro. As far as I can see it is a Mail problem as I get it nowhere else.

I have the same problem although I' not using an external keyboard. I'm working on a Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz Core i7 with SSD and 8Gb Ram.

Typing goes ok for the first few lines but after about six or seven lines it starts to lag seriously. I'm a pretty fast typer and mail often lags 6 or 7 characters behind which is infuriating. I didn't notice it before so I think it may have to do with the 10.10.1. update. Restarting doesn't help.

Man, I hope there will be a fix soon or I will have to downgrade to Mavericks and I'm not looking forward to all the extra work...

Yes, I definitely jumped the gun in reporting 10.10.1 having fixed the text entry delay. But installing 10.10.1 it has brought up an additional variable/observation, which I hadn't noticed before.

Upon restarting my machine after installing 10.10.1, Mail was flawless. Text flowed smoothly with no delay. After a bit, I started launching my other main apps (Safari, 1Password, etc.) and it *appears* that launching 1Password (5.0.1) seems to make the text entry delay.

Next I quit 1Password and the delay seems less significant, if not gone. I've only tested this a few times - is anyone on this thread NOT running 1Password and still experiencing the text entry delay?
