Q: Lag in Typing in Yosemite's Mail w/ External Apple Keyboard

Since upgrading to Yosemite I have been having a very annoying problem with delayed typing response in Mail when I have my external USB Apple keyboard (current model with numeric pad).  It is a sporadic issue.  Typing will be responsive, then there are 2-4 second delays in response.  I have only witnessed the issue with Mail and when using the external keyboard.  Problem does not occur in other programs or when using my MacBook Pro's built in keyboard.  Nor did the problem exist prior to upgrading to Yosemite.

My equipment is a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina.  When on my desk, I have it connected to a 23" Apple Display (original LCD), USB Apple Keyboard, Logitech cordless Trackman, and a Drobo firewire external drive.

Has anyone else witnessed this issue?  Or have an suggestions on correcting?

Thank you in advance!

I had the lag even though I have always used the Ariel #14 font.  When I switched on the slow-key, shortest delay, the lag stopped.  I also tested it with replies to e-mails with many nested replies.  Still working.

Sorry...it now appears not to have worked. Really find this problem annoying.

For those who are new to this thread, please remember Apple doesn't (officially) read comments in these discussions.

It really, really helps if they see/hear an outcry from those affected via bug reports or the Feedback channel:

Over a week ago, I used Apple's Font Book application to validate all my fonts. Font Book reported two problem fonts, but not Avenir, my Mail font. Still within Font Book, I deleted the two bad fonts and haven't had the Mail typing lag since. I've waited to be sure this solution worked for me before posting but I'm now writing emails with ease as I did before the problem appeared. /e/

I'm glad that worked for you, but I also did the same thing and the lag is still there. I've tried using Cocktail to delete font cache as well and no dice. I think other users have validated their fonts with no improvement. I'm really having a hate on for Apple lately. First with iTunes and now Mail.

I'm new to this thread, but I'm definitely being driven mad by this issue in Yosemite Mail. It doesn't appear to happen in any app, other than Mail.

One thought I had was if it might be related to a Mail plugin that we're all using. I think we should all share which (if any) plugins we're using, and maybe that'll shed some light.

For my part, I'm using two:

    Mail Act-On

    SpamSieve

I will also go straight to the Mail feedback page and add my complaint to the pile!

    Thanks,

    John

I don't use any plugins.  Using the Accessibility Slow-Keys option with the Accessibility Delay set at short continues to work for me.  We have not seen any lag in typing.  My wife is a super fast typist and she has thanked me for "fixing" the problem.

Likewise, I don't use any Mail plugins. I was using Herald but after the last OS update, I never updated it.

I know that thought was pursued earlier (this thread has become unmanageably long) without any common usage.

Good idea, but as others have written, we've been down that road.

Not only do I not have any Mail extensions now, but I never have used any Mail extension, so it's not even possible that some remnants of a past plugin have been inherited as I've updated.

And to reiterate because this thread is so long, if I remember correctly, this only cropped up in the release version of Yosemite. I did not notice it in any of the betas (I used them all).

Font cache or corrupted Fonts?  Corrupted Fonts can be cleared using OSX's Font Book.  Which one did you use?  Or both?
