Q: Antique MacBook Pro needs a memory upgrade

My aging MacBook Pro is a 15-inch 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, factory configged with two 1GB SDRAM modules. The "maximum memory" table at MacBook Pro: How to remove or install memory isn't unequivocally clear as to whether this system will only support an upgrade to 3GB or could handle a full 4GB upgrade - e.g., the SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300 Unbuffered Non-ECC 4GB (2GBx2) kit. Can anyone tell me, definitively, which is correct?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

What is the model year or the machine ID as shown in System Profiler application in the Utilities folder.

Here's what you can do to upgrade:

Maximum Memory6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

Reliable vendors for memory are OWC, DataMem, and Crucial.com.

Thank you, Kappy. Yes, Crucial.com is where I found the modules I wanted. I just wasn't sure if the machine could support the two 2GB modules or I'd have to settle for keeping one 1GB module and just replacing the other 1GB with a 2GB for a total of 3GB. You appear to have the chops for determining the correct upgrade for me, and I appreciate your help. (My machine will be grateful, too - as long as the fan can keep up with demand. ;-)
