Nov 1, 2014 7:50 PM in response to Satchmoby Winston Churchill,Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
- Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
- Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
- Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
- Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
- Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
- Restart your mobile device.

Nov 1, 2014 7:55 PM in response to Winston Churchillby Satchmo,Tried all that before. No go. I'm thinking Occam's razor. Didn't happen before latest updates.

Nov 1, 2014 8:03 PM in response to Satchmoby Winston Churchill,The simplest answer is only the best when it fits all scenarios. The update works fine for myself and many others. Put yourself in my position and I suspect you'd be looking at the differences between our set ups rather than which bits are the same.

Nov 10, 2014 12:13 PM in response to Satchmoby Satchmo,Called Apple support about this today. Rebooted ATV and did an SMC reset, and it now works. Since I had already rebooted ATV without success, perhaps the SMC reset did the job. The Yosemite update might have upset the, um, Apple cart, as per Occam's razor.

Nov 10, 2014 4:49 PM in response to Satchmoby Satchmo,Later that same day....
The problem is back. Confirmed that is also doesn't work when logged in as Guest, so the problem is in Yosemite or iTunes 12, apparently.

Nov 10, 2014 4:58 PM in response to Satchmoby Winston Churchill,It's certainly not Yosemite or iTunes 12 per se, because I'm using both of these. Unfortunately there is a very large area of things that could be different on each of our computers. Do you have an iOS device to see if that is still able to wake the sleeping Apple TV.

Nov 19, 2014 5:00 AM in response to Satchmoby tumster,I had the same problem and it somehow got fixed after a few taking a few steps. I restarted the Apple TV, then on reboot it couldn't find my network immediately, so I wen't to Settings -> General -> Network -> Test Network. I don't know what exactly fixed it, but it awakens correctly now when I start streaming

Jan 3, 2015 2:13 PM in response to Satchmoby Satchmo,Nothing has worked. I can properly stream from the Mac to Airport Express with audio connected, but can't connect to the Apple TV a few feet from me, even when it is turned on. When I can sometimes cause it to work, it plays for a while then disconnects. Sometimes Apple TV turns itself off. I can make a connection in reverse by accessing my music library via the TV connected to ATV, but even it disconnects sometimes for no apparent reason. I know the following:
1. My airport network is not on the same frequency as any of the visible networks in my area.
2. Resetting ATV, the Mac, or Airport Extreme doesn't solve the problem.
3. None of the suggestions offered so far has helped.

Jan 3, 2015 2:48 PM in response to Satchmoby Satchmo,I have just discovered that if I turn on Airplay Display the connection is quickly made from the Mac to Apple TV and the iTunes music streams normally. Turn if off again and iTunes can't stream.
