Q: why can't i connect my 5s to my mac book pro via bluetooth?

Every time i try to connect my phone to my mac book. my mac book keeps saying make sure network access in enabled. I tried figuring it out but can't. any thoughts??

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), iOS 8.1

Other than Internet tethering using iPhone cellular, you cannot connect to the Mac.
