Yosemite VNC broken?

Just upgraded my Mac Mini from Mavericks to Yosemite. I often have to provide remote support via VNC to my aged mother.

In the past, under Mavericks, no problem, just "Connect to server" type in vnc://her_server_name:5900 (All the necessary port forwarding has been set up on her router). When the dialog comes up I just select "Connect as a registered user", login with her user name and password and fix whatever it is she has broken!

Now, with Yosemite, first it takes forever (several minutes) to open the connection (why two windows? Screen sharing, which then gets overlaid with another box with a shared drive icon and the word "connecting"). If I'm lucky, eventually the Screen Sharing Window tells me "User is using this machine, ask for permission" or "login as yourself" (I have an account on her machine but does me no good if I want to see what's going on in her account). The option to login as a registered user has gone!

(Yes I could have her grant permission but she doesn't live in front of her computer, so it's inconvenient at best)

We need a fix for this asap. Until then I will not upgrade my other computers, but maybe in the interim I'll go back to the old chicken....

Same problems here. Since installing Yosemite (I'm now using 10.10.2), I cannot connect to several of my other Macs (running 10.5 and 10.9) any more via screen sharing without waiting for minutes to make the connection.


However, here's the very strange thing:


One of the remote Macs, running 10.9.5, has TWO network interfaces via two different providers. While connecting to the its default interface (the topmost) is causing the minute long delay when connecting to vnc://..., the connection via the secondary interface is immediate!


The Mac's Firewall (System Prefs - Security) is off, BTW.
