How to retrieve voicemails from landline phone

I have a broken iPhone 5S and I would like to retrieve voicemail messages by using another phone, hopefully from a standard landline phone. Is there a method to call one's mobile number and play back voicemails while not using the iPhone.

The exact method depends on your cellular carrier and you will need to know your voicemail password (which many if not most people forget because they never need it after first setting up their voicemail on a cell phone). Following are instructions if you are with Verizon:

To check your voice mailbox outside the Verizon Wireless network or from any phone:

  1. Call your 10-digit mobile phone number.
  2. Tap # to interrupt your greeting.
  3. Enter your password and tap #.

AT&T instructions:

  1. Place a call to the wireless number, and do not answer.
  2. Interrupt the greeting by pressing the * key.
  3. When prompted, enter your voicemail password.
