PNC Bank

PNC Bank has gone live today with Apple Pay. The setup is easy except for the "verification" process. It's telling me I have to call PNC Bank. I'm having trouble getting anyone to verify Apple Pay. Anyone else having trouble??

Does a Virtual Wallet debit card or calling after Banking Hours negativly effect the verification process?

Today is Nov 5th (after banking hours) and I just tried adding my PNC VISA Debit Card (it is a Virtual Wallet card) for the first time with no luck at all. I can get all the way to the verification step and then it asks me to verify by phone using (888) 762-2265.

When I do this, all it does is read me my bank account information. So I too am having some issues. When you verify via telephone with PNC, do you have to talk to a live person to verify? Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

I called the 888 number and talked to a customer service representative. I explained the situation and they then transferred me to a IT representative. At that point the IT rep asked me 2 questions to verify my identity. Once I was verified by the IT customer service rep, she told me Apple Pay was ready to be used. As soon as I hung up the phone I opened Passbook and confirmed that Apple Pay was ready to use.

For everyone wondering about the PNC verification process, here goes: (and this is my personal experience)

1. The PNC website states that Apple only has to perform a simple verification process and then it's ready. That's completely WRONG. You HAVE to call PNC and then identify yourself. Then you have to verify a few transactions, and finally you're ready to go after the rep authorizes your account. NOW, here's more:

2. If for some reason you do anything that requires you to re-register (such as your iphone passcode is deleted for whatever reason, or you have to restore your iphone, or your iphone is replaced under warranty), you have to go through the entire verification process AGAIN. That involves calling the toll free number AGAIN, and verifying stuff AGAIN, before the rep re-authorizes your account.

And note that Apple Pay works well once it's complete. But having to go through the whole process again like that is simply ridiculous. I set up my Capital One via their Wallet app very quickly. All it took was a couple of security questions via my iphone (stuff that only I knew) and it was done. Not sure why PNC has made this so complicated and time-consuming.
