iPhoto 9.6 Yosemite Upgrade Library

Hi There:

When I open my iPhoto application (version 9.6), it says that my library needs to be upgraded, so I click "Upgrade" and a box pops up saying "Examining Library" and the application closes. There is no application running to indicate that iPhoto is indeed being upgraded so I don't know what's happening.

My computer's specs:

OS X Yosemite version 10.10

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010)

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

- I downloaded the iPhoto Upgrader Helper and it says that I have no use for it since my version of iPhoto is later than 7.0

- I used Command+Option to "Rebuild" the library and nothing happens (it just closes the program like when I try to upgrade).

- I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program (no change).

- I tried opening iPhoto from the App Store (no change).

One interesting thing that may be related is that my iPhoto library appears to be either gone or corrupted in some way. When I click to open the iPhoto Library folder, a terminal box opens instead.

I'm really stumped here! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library

1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,

User uploaded file

2 - select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.

3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.

User uploaded file

4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option

User uploaded file

5 - in the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.

Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.

Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
