Q: Can't wake from sleep with yosemite

having tons of problems with Mac desktop 2008 with Yosemite   Worst is it will not wake from sleep.  Have to force reboot. 2 times today already.   Also now booting terribly slowly.  Also noting extremely slow boots with my MacBook pro 2010.  Should be fast since this one has SSD drive.  Can't figure out what is going on

also so getting a lot of grey blank screens on boot up.  Won't get to apple screen or users

Mac Pro (Early 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9), ATI RHD 2600 XT-10G RAM-2xQuadCore

Okay,  here's the situation on the MacBook Pro 2010... the graphics card is definitely starting to fail. I have the original GeForce 300M chip that started failing after the 3 year warranty.  The entire system appears to freeze up if/when I can boot regularly and has Kernel panics all the time on regular boot when doing graphics.

Right now only Safe Boot is working. Otherwise I'm getting stuck at 1/4 of the Apple startup screen.  I've let it run for an hour without it getting to Users.

I have on BOTH computers: run fsck, Techtool Pro 7 and Disk Util.  While the Desktop has had to fix volume directory due to these forced reboots on No wake from sleep, mostly the MacBook has passed with no issues. It just seems very unresponsive and slow.  I have rest PRAM on both machines.

I am currently reinstalling Yosemite on the desktop to see if that fixes it. I have noticed however, before Yosemite, every third boot often landed at a grey screen with nothing happening. I even let it sit overnight and nothing booted. Rebooting usually cleared it up the second time.   But now it is happening almost every time.

The wake from sleep issue on the Desktop just started since the 10.10 update.  I used to have that problem on on old mac or earlier OS.

I am wondering if Yosemite's use of the Cloud with my other devices (iPhones and iPads) is causing some kind of startup issue.  I'm not on a fast internet connection... 1.5Mbps.  If Yosemite is making calls to the universe and that is part of the slow startup issue... I'm not going to be able to fix that.
