Headphones short out at least once a month

Alright. Go pop some popcorn, this is gonna be a long one...

So, I got my iPod nano (2 Gig black) last Christmas. I love it. I can barely go through a school day without it. (Helps drown out the stupid freshmen). I used the original iPod headphones for a while. Eventually after a while, the left ear died. I didn't think much of it. After all, they we prepackaged headphones. I got out some old ones and used them. Those died after a week or so. I started buying headphones and using them. One of two things would happen with them. The right or left ear would die, or the cord would short out. I went through about 5 pairs in 3 months. I sent it in to apple to get it fixed in February. I got my iPod back and I had absolutely no problems for 3 or months. After that, my headphone jack died. The left ear in ANY headphones would not work. I didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for apple to repair it again, so I bought a radio remote since it bypasses the headphone jack. I used it for about one month, then today the headphones I used for that month failed. What going on? I have no clue what's wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem with my 30gig vid ipod. Mine shorts out all of the time and i've been through tons of headphones also just to make sure it was the ipod itself and not the headphones. I have had my ipod for 7 months and think it ***** that apple wants me to pay the shipping to have it fixed when it is obviously a manufacturing flaw. I can't wait till microsoft starts selling their mp3 player and i can finally ditch apple for good.

New developments. After yet ANOTHER pair of head phones shorted yesterday, I pulled out my white apple headphones. I plugged them into my radio remote and went to school. The headphones worked fine until I got halfway through first block. After that, the headphones would make popping noises, then stop. The iPod was still playing, but the headphones would just make a popping noise. It was very quite, and only happened intermittently. I had to go all day listening to my nano in one ear because I had to use the regular headphone jack. I really need some help here...

More new problems. I cannot use ANY headphones with my radio remote, since it will stop making sounds, and instead make popping noises for about 10 seconds I am forced to use my headphones with the regular audio jack, which only plays out of one ear. I have to choose between only using one ear phone, or haiving it make popping noises for 10 seconds at random. Also, for some reason the radio remote will freeze up and not respond for about 5 seconds. Also, right after I started using the radio remote, my iPod would pause for no reason.

I really need help. If I can't get it here, I will have to send in my iPod yet AGAIN!

I have the exact same type of iPod and have been using the original headphones eince I got it, almost a year ago. My only advice is to send it back in. But, your posts confused me, so do the headphones work in something ghetto, like a walkman, or CD player? Cause if they do then it is definetly a prob. w/ your pod. All I have heard is that having the volume as loud as it will go will blow out any headphones quickly. I know it is fun to rock out loudly, but save some $$$ and turn it down a bit...
