my ipod mini froze with the light on - help!!!

I have had my iPod mini for a little under 2 years.
Tonight I was at the gym and it just froze when I clicked to the next song. The backlight is on and the buttons don't work. I cannot turn it off, or set Hold on, or anything.
Anyone have any ideas? HELP!!!!
