missing contact pictures

I recently reset my phone and completely reloaded the software on my iPhone 5 (iOS 8.1) to troubleshoot my fast draining battery issue and since then, my contact pictures are gone. As far as I can tell, in Settings, everything is turned on, just no pictures. I first noticed the issue when chatting with a friend on Viber. I thought it was just that app, but all the pictures previously associated with my Contacts list were gone as well. If I recall, Contacts had pulled the pictures from my Facebook account, but I can't seem to find a way to re-associate the two accounts. Between the battery issues and iTunes, I have spent more hours the past week or two troubleshooting this phone than in the whole past year and a half that I've owned it combined. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.
