Think Or Swim (thinkorswim) platform problems on new retina 5K iMac

I've been using ThinkOrSwim for a year now on multiple computers and operating systems without a problem. No issues running it on Yosemite OS 10.10 on my Macbook Air. HOWEVER, as soon as I switched over to a retina 5K iMac, I ran into a lot of problems:

1) First, I was unable to install the program after downloading the installer from http://mediaserver.thinkorswim.com/installer/install.html

2) Next, since I couldn't run the installer, I tried copying the thinkorswim application folder over TO the new iMac FROM the old Macbook Air. When I double click on the application it partially loads up but as soon as the main window of the application appears, it crashes. I get two error messages: "think or swim quit unexpectedly" and "a graphics problem has been detected".

3) The uninstaller won't work either

4) I feel like maybe this is an iMac issue or has something to do with the huge resolution of the iMac so I reduced the resolution of the iMac but that didn't work either

Not sure what to do. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

@REFLUXER Were you able to get ToS to work on your new iMac 5k, I am having the exact same issue and can't install nor can I run the migrated application? I also tried to edit resolution setting, no luck, and the ToS Application is already set to run on Low Resolution.

Did you contact the developer of ThinkorSwim? What did they day?

Yes, i did contact TDAmeritrade and they are saying it is a known issue and believe it is a Java (Oracle) issue. This is what i got from the Client Support team:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. This is actually an issue specific to the

way Java works with the new 5k iMacs. The ability for us to resolve this

through thinkorswim will be a little more limited. With that being said,

our developers are working on a workaround try to get past this error.

Yea I had called the thinkorswim team as well a few days ago and got the same reply. I just feel like we are in Limbo .....who's going to notify us when the issue is resolved. Oracle ....don't think so .....I guess will just hang around and hope some auto update of Java or and new version of thinkorswim that installs weekly just makes it all of sudden install ....I just don't like the way this is being handled. If developers are going to use me as a tester ...at least have some form of notification as soon as the issue is resolved.

As many of you know, I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get ThinkOrSwim to work on my new retina iMac. I have spoken with TOS and posted the problem to many boards. Generally, people thought it was a compatibility issue with Yosemite 10.10 but that is not that case (at least for me) because I was able to run TOS successfully on multiple desktops and laptops running 10.10. Finally, I was able to establish a work around that I wanted to share with this community. It worked for me and will hopefully work for you:

Find the TOS application, select 'get info', then click the box that says something like 'open in lower resolution'.

Ok Thanks for the Info .....but this is the only Mac I own as I mentioned earlier...so I have to get the base install to work .....on this Mac .....I currently have it running under Parallels with Windows 8.1. But I still want it running under the Mac OS. That was my workaround, and the font is as tiny tiny tiny as u want it ....

20 screens on the monitor ......Im still using my old Dell.....I can't be having performance issues or any issues for that matter trading futures ....

Thanks for your help .....

Yea, I'm giving up on it .....just a case of being on the bleeding edge ....I do like the machine tho ....hopefully it will get resolved before to long ....Thanks for your help ...and hopefully if somebody gets the install to work as it should, they will update this posting ...... I was just glad to see I was not the only one having issues. I purchased this machine specifically for Trading with thinkorswim ......It will get fixed ....Take Care, and Thanks again everyone ....
