Is it correct that the Apple iPad Air 2 SIM card expires?

is it right that the Apple SIM card in the new iPad air 2 expires soon after you get it?!!!!

i Have only had my new iPad for just over a week and up until now I have been content to use only its wifi capabilities. However, I am going down south for the weekend and have decided to set up a cellular data package from EE. Trouble is, I keep getting error messages when I try to do this.

So, I phoned EE and got the usual customer support person from a country thousands of miles away who told me that my sim had expired. I don't know how she knows this as I was contacting her from my iPhone (on a 'Three' contract, and she can't know anything about my iPad)!!!

Does the Apple sim expire? Or is she using the wrong customer service script?
