Q: No option to delete rescue address

Hi there

There is no option to delete the rescue address that appears on my page. I've waved my cursor in and around the email address but still no cigar.

Please help, as it's a work address I've left over two years ago now.

Thank you very much

Talei

    Hello snowbroth,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

There is an option to delete a rescue address from your Apple ID.  Take a look at the information below to learn more.

    Rescue email address

A rescue address helps secure your Apple ID account against unauthorized access by someone who gains control of your primary address. If you have a rescue address, it receives all security-related Apple ID email instead of your primary address, including the email needed to reset your password or security questions.

    1. Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com).
    2. Select “Manage your Apple ID” and sign in.
    3. Select “Password and Security” on the left side of the page. You may be asked to answer one or more security questions before continuing. Forgot the answers?
    4. If you see a list of three security questions, your account has the option to use a rescue address.
      • Accounts that have fewer than three questions don't have and don't need a rescue address.
      • Accounts that use two-step verification don't have and don't need a rescue address or security questions.
    5. Add a rescue address:
      • Select Add Email Address, then enter your rescue address. Apple will send a verification email to that address. Didn't receive the email?
      • Follow the instructions in the email to verify the address. If you don't verify the address, security-related email continues to go to your primary address.
    6. Edit a rescue address:
      • Select Edit next to the address, then enter the new address. Apple will send a verification email to that address. Didn't receive the email?
      • Follow the instructions in the email to verify the address. If you don't verify the address, security-related email continues to go to your primary address.
    7. Delete a rescue address: Select Delete next to the address.

    Take care,

    Hello Alex

Thank you for taking the time to cut and paste this information for me.

I did find that information myself and read it and tried it before posting my question on this forum.

I cannot remember the answers to my secret questions, and as there is no option apparent if I cannot remember the answers to my secret questions, I had to log in and change my password etc the other way just to get into my account. Once in my account and trying to change the rescue address on the appropriate tab while in my profile, I was then presented with the problem that I have asked about

Even though it says that I have only two security questions (and according to the information above technically that means that I don't actually have a rescue address) a rescue address still shows up underneath the security questions.

And I want to either delete that address or change it.

Neither my primary address, or my secondary address is the email address that shows up underneath the two security questions.

Any idea how to fix this? Or what my problem is?

    Thank you very much

    Talei

    Hi Talei,

As I mentioned in my previous post, you are able to both edit or delete the rescue email address you see when logged in to your Apple ID on the My Apple ID website.

    1. Edit a rescue address:
      • Select Edit next to the address, then enter the new address. Apple will send a verification email to that address. Didn't receive the email?
      • Follow the instructions in the email to verify the address. If you don't verify the address, security-related email continues to go to your primary address.
    2. Delete a rescue address: Select Delete next to the address.

If you continue to have issues with locating the edit button, or deleting the recovery email, then you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action

    Take care,

    Alex H.

I am having this same issue - I know exactly what I am doing, the only thing that is not working is that there is no 'edit' button to the right of my rescue e-mail! I don't understand.
