How can I turn off cellular-plan reminders?

I'm just beginning to use my new iPad Air 2. I plan to use the cellular capability only under specific circumstances; the rest of the time I'll stick to wi-fi. It's the way I used my old iPad, and there was no problem with going without a plan for periods of time. On this iPad, I get constant, harassing reminders to sign up for a cellular plan. I would do that if I could choose a plan that did not cost anything until I used it, but I don't see that option available.

How can I turn off this extremely annoying behavior?

Having read of this issue numerous time since the iPad Air 2 had been released, this seems to be a somewhat common issue with the cellular models of the iPad Air 2. I don't believe there's anything you can currently do about it. Hopefully it will be corrected soon in an iOS update )or otherwise). In the meantime, try removing the SIM from the device and run it that way...but I recall users doing that still had the annoying reminders. In spite of that, give it a try and see if it works for you.

I tried taking out the SIM card (and promptly dropped it! 😕). So far, it seems to have worked! Thank you for the idea!

BTW, I wonder if you can tell me what is contained on the SIM card (besides the carrier name and code numbers). I know that for cell phones, the SIM also often carries all sorts of data: contacts, phone numbers, etc. But on the iPad, and the iPhone for that matter, that information is kept in the software, and – I presume – not on the SIM card. Do you know the answer?

From the page linked below:

"Just like most cellular phones, the iPhone uses a SIM card to determine the phone number, carrier, and features are available for the account. However, the iPhone does not store contacts and phone numbers on the SIM card."

I take that to mean the phone number & carrier info only.
