Q: After upgrading to Yosemite computers on my network are not showing up in shared on finder

Hi Everyone!

I have two mac computers and iMac (early 2009 version) and Mac Book Air (late 2010 version). Both are on the latest version of Yosemite 10.10.

Ever since upgrading my computers to this OS, I noticed that the "Shared"  section of the finder no longer shows the respective other computer. I can get to the computer by "Go/Connect to Server" and typing in the ComputerName.local. I can also control each other's screen by using screen share, but only via iCloud. Airdrop also works, but in case of one computer AirDrop is not listed in Favorites and works only when I have both launch airdrop at the same time.

What's interesting as well is that my Time Capsule does who up on both computers in the "shared" part of the finder.

Both computers' settings in System Preferences/Sharing have not changed since Mountain Lion.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

    Hi ..

    Try this on one Mac.

Might be corrupted Finder preferences as a result of the Yosemite upgrade.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.

Restart the Mac then check Shared in the Finder Sidebar.

If that helped, do the same on the other Mac.

Thanks for the quick reply! Unfortunately this did not help. Neither AirDrop nor the iMac computer (I tried the above on MBA) show up in Finder favorites. Screen Share still doesn't work, but I can connect to iMac.local (let me call my iMac that) via Connect to Server

The same thing is happening to my computer, I've post a question about this earlier.  Finders sidebar doesn't even list it even when selected from preferences.  I tried carolyn's post but it didn't work.

This is the first upgrade that has given me problems.  I hope to get this resolved soon.  When I launch airport utility my airport isn't visible either, is your time machine visible? I can get on web but no local network options, printers, severs or any thing.

Same here. Sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesn't, and I have the computer I'm looking for set to never sleep...

The problem just started when I upgraded two macs to 10.10.1. from 10.10. They were OK after upgrading to Yosemite when it was first released.

Neither of them nor other macs on the network appear in the finder sidebar or under network.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

I have a work around, but not a solution.  My guess is this is a Yosemite bug.

I have an iMac which I use to control a "headless" Mac Mini via my home network.    I am calling the iMac the source Mac and the Mini the destination Mac

Go to the destination Mac, open System Preferences/Sharing and uncheck screen sharing.   then recheck it and re-save.   This gets the destination mac back in your finder list on the source Mac.

    Hope Apple fixes this.

This did not work for me, but rebooting the destination mac puts it back in finder.

Not a solution either because eventually it disappears again.

The other issue is that it takes multiple tries to screen share after its in the shared section of finder.

I am having luck with Finder Go/Connect To Server and then keying the destination server name.

I have to repeatedly relink it, but it is not difficult to do because you can save the server name in the list in the "Go/Connect To Server"

The destination server name is in the System preferences/Sharing on the destination server.

I have a similar system as you, Mac Mini running headless and iMac in another room to access it and screen share.

No wi fi at all here all ethernet.  I have tried everything possible I can think of with only temporary fixes.  I have to assume

that it is an OS bug.

I can connect via finder like you said Go/Connect ro Server but I notice the name it puts in finder after that type of connection's not what usually appears there but it does work.

Also have you had any issues with screen sharing?

I am not having problems with screen sharing once it connects and it connects easily and reliably.

Using OS X 10.1.1 on both machines
