Q: After upgrading to Yosemite computers on my network are not showing up in shared on finder

Hi Everyone!

I have two mac computers and iMac (early 2009 version) and Mac Book Air (late 2010 version). Both are on the latest version of Yosemite 10.10.

Ever since upgrading my computers to this OS, I noticed that the "Shared"  section of the finder no longer shows the respective other computer. I can get to the computer by "Go/Connect to Server" and typing in the ComputerName.local. I can also control each other's screen by using screen share, but only via iCloud. Airdrop also works, but in case of one computer AirDrop is not listed in Favorites and works only when I have both launch airdrop at the same time.

What's interesting as well is that my Time Capsule does who up on both computers in the "shared" part of the finder.

Both computers' settings in System Preferences/Sharing have not changed since Mountain Lion.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

    Nope!

It freaking doesn't work!  I'm getting so mad about this.

Not only did my computers disappear again, incl iTunes shares, now my file shares don't even show up on Yosemite clients, on a Snow Leopard machine they do show up using the same account!

It also now takes 40 seconds AFTER login to connect to my wifi.

I have similar problem on my network with a mac mini server on Mavericks (I don't dare to upgrade to Yosemite). I have an iMac and an MBP on Mavericks that show the network shares and the other computers in the network. I have two MBPs updated to Yosemite (10.10.2 and 10.10.3 respectively) that do show the shares in the local account and a mobile account, but not in the network accounts. I'm not a pro, does this give a clue to anyone?

By the way: this is one of many things that have gone wrong in connection with the OSX server (keychain, Mail) from my upgrade to Mavericks and further to Yosemity. OSX server used to be a friendly solution for my home network, but it is giving me more and more trouble.

I have the same problem. My Mac Mini disappears from the network and does not show up in in the list of computer on my other Macs connected to the same network. BUT my brother printer, my Time Capsule and my LaCie 2big NAS is show in Finder all the time.

If I ping the Mini server it answers in 4 ms. It is alive. Sometimes I am able to connect to it and some times not. The Remote VNC connect to the server works sometimes and sometimes not.

This drives me nuts. I am on OS X 10.10.3 - and it all began when upgrading to Yosemite. I dit not change a single thing in the setup of my Mini. It use it for file sharing and it is running a Plex server.

What drives me nuts is, that after each update, everything seems to be working for about a day and then it reverts back to long connections ....

I tried so many other things, like restarting every apple device I have (someone blamed older Apple TV's (2nd gen)) but to no avail.

Same for me. All Devices are there, but not "shared". I can approach it with Finder and "connect to server" but then it still doesn't show up in the Finder side bar. I came across this issue because Mail keeps crashing shortly after start up for the network accounts (not for the local accounts). Does anyone know whether this is related (this is only the case in 10.10.3)?

even with 10.3 I notice both on the server and the workstation, it still does not work properly, I really hope they learned something from Yosemite and 10:11 to make it work with your network. It is linux in the bottom so it should not be a problem

10.3 fixed it for me, but when ir was broken originally with YoShitOnMe I had to put the Macs on never sleep mode

to keep them on the network.

    This solved my issue.

Connected remote servers were not showing on the side panel and now everything is ok again.

I've had this issue since Mavericks, I had tried to remove the plist back then but it did not fix it.

This time it did the trick !

I have these crashes daily. It is described in a lot of discussions here but reloading discovered is not helping me.

I have installed OS X Yosemity server and activated file sharing but my server still disappears from Finder in alle clients less than 24 hours after a reboot.

I have narrowed the problem down to Bonjour. I can access the server, both on VNC, SSH, AFP and SMB with absolutely no problems. But the server is not broadcasted by Bonjour. I have used Bonjour Browser to check it - it is not there. http://www.tildesoft.com

Does anyone know how to reset or in any way control the Bonjour broadcast??

I had the same problem from day 1 on my MAC.

Workaround is putting mac in never sleep mode, however 10.3 finally fixed it for me.

I have 2 Mac's with this problem that never go to sleep, but they still disappear! So that's not always it.

Funny enough (or weird actually), ever since the upgrade of Remote Desktop Client to 3.8.4 my iMac stays visible (for 4 days now). My Mac Mini still keeps disappearing though ... Update installed on both these Macs as well as on my Macbook Pro .....
