iPhone won't reset to English after reselecting English setting

Switched language setting from English to French, then switched back to English. All text is displaying in English but the keyboard is still programmed to French. Still the case after a hard reset, closing out all affected apps, and doing switch to/from other language settings. Mail, messenager, and safari apps are all impacted.

Pretty extraordinary bug, Apple. I dont know French and don't want to learn French.

Using iOS 8.1 on an iPhone 6.

This is definitely a bug. Yes, you can add new languages and remove them - trivial. However, the issue here is when you add a new language then remove it, it remains in the keyboard to spite the fact it was removed. This is by definition, a bug. If something happens that is unintended and will require an update to iOS to fix = bug.

To reiterate. Steps to reproduce bug:

1Add an additional language

2use it a couple times

3remove it from settings

4go back to keyboard and review language options

Notice the keyboard still shows the added/removed language when it shouldn't because you 'removed' it right? :)

This is a confirmed bug is very annoying. There are basically no workarounds afaik (as far as I know).

Please fix this Apple - or hire me as QA. Thank you!

Thanks for the solutions. I still think it's a bug and here's why:

All text content was displaying in English--including mail and messages--but the keyboard was somehow programmed to type in French. If someone sends me an email in French then I'd expect the keyboard to adapt to French. But with English set to the default language there's no need/rationale for having the keyboard auto type in French.

You actually had two keyboards active (probably as a result of your testing the French interface). Many users have more than one, so they can spellcheck/autocorrect in different languages. Keyboards don't switch automatically, the user has to select the one he wants via the "globe" key. Of course you did not really want two keyboards active in the first place, so it was best to just edit it out of the keyboard list (which should have made the "globe" key disappear).

iOS has always worked this way, but you can suggest changes to Apple via

For Apple to hear your views on this, you should use the feedback link provided just above.

But I don't think it will ever happen, because it is intentional that the language list (which really just determines the user interface) and the keyboard list (which determines what letters you can type and what autocorrection/spellcheck is used) should be independently adjustable. Many users want just one language on the language list, but need multiple keyboards on the keyboard list, which they can easily switch among via the globe key. They would find it really annoying that removing a language should change their keyboard settings.

I totally agree this is a bug. I am a really curious person, especially about languages.

Problem is, the other day I had installed a Deustch option for my keyboard so I could show a friend who is learning the language, later that day I tried to uninstall it and guess what? It was still there. I tried installing other languages and they don't show up.

So you went to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards and pressed the Edit button and then did Delete for Deutsch but it did not go away? It was still available using the Globe key?
