I would like to create subtitles for my video but I find no way to input the text file with the subtitles in a format that FPCX will accept. I have tried rtf and txt format and several variants of these including an xml file created with TextEdit.
I dread the having to work one by one with each bit of text for every sequence requiring subtitles.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks, innocentius. What I am trying to avoid is to have to do this cut and paste routine repeatedly for every frame requiring a subtitle. I am hoping there is a way to add the subtitle text as a single media file, that, once it is an event, t I can trim and reposition to connect with the project in the timeline.
If I am understanding you right. You want to copy a text from for example Text Edit and paste in the text box for subtitles you choose from FCPX Title menu ? That should not be a problem.
There is this utility called X-Title Importer that should do what you need:
