Since, when I send a photo by text, it doesn't ask me what size I want to send -
what size is being sent? And why is there no option to change sizes before sending via text? It asks for Mail (right before you hit send), but not for text.

Wow. That's too big. No wonder the entire web across the world has slowed down to a crawl. Why do we need to send pix at such high resolution via text message is beyond me, when they're only seen on our devices for a brief second. Crazy.
The size being sent is roughly one quarter of the original. I emailed myself a couple of photos. Them sent the same photos by iMessage, saved them to photos then tried to email the iMessage photo and it was greatly reduced.
You're welcome. No sooner had I posted my first reply I realized the flaws in my method. The biggest being I'm on a iPad. i just did a Google search and found an answer. It seems you're not the first person to wonder about the size.

A short follow up. I was using a iPad not a iPhone and the results can only be considered a good guess at best.
