I purchased the phone from UAE and using it in India. I got an error code of 53 while updating the software through Itune. The phone is struck since three weeks. Hardly I used it for 10 days only. When I pointed out this to apple support they advised me to go to UAE and get it repaired/replaced there because the product has no warranty outside UAE. When I raised this problem, the reply from apple is disappointing and I have no other option except to take it to UAE.

Also apple said that u must read out the regulations prior to buy anything from UAE. I accept that, I did a mistake by buying iphone 6plus from UAE but I never expected apple will sell an inferior product in UAE. I bought so many other electronics items and phones from UAE and all t of them working so precisely and nicely except i phone 6 plus. The phone was not available in india that time and my curiosity to buy the phone in UAE backfired me. Phone price was little cheaper but that was not the case. I want a specific model 1524 which was not available in India during that period.

I do admit the mistake. But I have a big question for alpple. Apple should clarify a traveler should carry 3-4 setts of phone while he is travelling to different countries? One for UAE one for India, one for US and one for Singapore? May be Specifications changes to country to country. But it should work on GSM/LTE/CDMA.

regards.

Same issue. I have appointment at Apple store. Did you get a resolution.

Apple store did not even look at my non-working iPhone. Representative said 53 is a hardware failure. Lucky for me they had my phone in stock and replaced it with a brand new iPhone 6 Plus still in the box.

However, feeling like I may need Apple Care, given the failure of the first phone, I tried to buy it on the replacement phone. They said I am now listed as having a repaired phone and I cannot buy Apple Care on a repaired phone. I told them the phone is not repaired but new. They said that is Apple's policy. I told them their Apple policy makes no sense and their representative agreed with me and told me to buy insurance through ATT. I expect better from Apple.

i also have an error code 53 after iOS 8.3 update. The iPhone 6 was working ok with exception of the Touch ID until I plugged it into itunes and now the phone is only good for a door stop or paper weight. Is this another money making scheme as they expect us to pay £200+ for exchange! They have disabled the complete phone due to a small fault of a Touch ID gadget they class as new security! How can Apple treat their customers in this way without any option or warnings, this must be illegal in some way! I look at this as robbery, i buy a phone and use the phone, they ask for it to be updated and then disable it as error code 53! If I was writing the software code with my personnel ethics I'd would conduct a diagnosis report then give the owner the option to upgrade with another warning. Not apple, annoying, rude and unethical to say the least. After owning over 8 iPhones myself, iPads and thinking that the 6 is the best one yet. Not now, thinking of a brand change to Samsung.

thanks for the reply. When I took it into Apple they firstly assumed that the screen was replaced by an unapproved source and this would cause the touch ID to fail. I asked them to prove this and reluctant he said he would open it up to look. He came back saying that all components were original and that it could be water damage to the Touch ID. My point with all this is that the phone was functional and now it isnt due to a upgrade and that I had no option.

Its like having a 6 month BMW, updating your SatNav and BMW shutting down the complete car due to the volume button didn't work! What would we do if that happened! £600 phone that is 6 months old now blocked for a fingerprint gadget that I have never used!

Unfortunately, water damage would be user damage and is not covered under warranty. I've seen other writings of error 53, and they all seem to lead to hardware issues. Your only recourse is with Apple, and you would need to deal directly with them for a resolution. There have been plenty of users that have updated their devices that have not experienced this issue, so it is not an iOS issue, and Apple does not disable phones via update as a money making scheme.

My issue is the ethics on this. Please remember the phone worked, completely functional and it requested an update. Now the phone is completely non funcational. Remember it was working now it isn't! How on earth is this my fault!!! I would be happy if apple can restore it back to iOS 8.2 as it was! But no, why not, all Apple are interested in is exchanging the phone £200+! for a fault of Touch ID (£5) and then an update! How long does it take for the actual repair, 30 mins is standard overhead of £30 hour, that is a £20 repair! Got to be honest, I am going off Apple do to their ethics and principles. I know the one part was a fault of mine but understanding software engineering there is no need to fail a complete firmware flash for hardware issues, you engineer code arourd this for user input. five stage process: diagnostics feedback, user interface, backup, flash, confirm. On error, restore. Standard software hardware process. Not happy
