Time Capsule
I want to transfer data FROM my 1T time Capsule TO an external hard drive, and start fresh with an empty TC. Any thoughts?

It is built into the TC.. just use archive from the airport utility and plug in a suitable USB disk, 1TB or greater capacity.
Once you archive. .select erase.. and do a quick erase.. none of the other settings are needed..
The backup of a full TC can take several hours. The format will take a min or two.
Don't mix up the order!! Archive first.. Erase second. 😁
It is faster to do it manually from the TC to the same USB drive plugged into your computer.. but archive has the advantage that once started it will carry on with the computer off.
