Buying in US, bringing back to UK

Hello
What are the complications of buying an iPod in NYC and using it in the UK? I'll need a plug but apart from that will warranty still be ok? Anything else I might want to consider because some friends are flying to NYC next week and I can save about £80 by getting them to buy me one while they're there. Also, where's the best place for them to go to get me a new iPod?
Thanks

They don't charge via usb (and firewire) instead of the mains, they charge that way as well as the mains. The wall charger is not included, it's an optional accessory.

There are no issues for you to consider. The warranty is global, so no problems there should you ever need service.

I have a couple of iPods purchased in the USA working just fine here in the UK.

I bought my brother an iPod from New York just a few weeks ago. The limited 1year Apple warranty is international so you're covered with that. If you were to buy AppleCare then that wouldn't be valid, so wait til you get home if you wish to do that. Everything else is fine.

I recommend buying from the Apple Store on 5th Ave. The glass cube store. It's an amazing building, a great experience; where better to buy your iPod?! The other Apple store is in Soho.

The prices between apple stores and other retailers are the same, i didn't find anywhere ipods for less than standard RRP. Have a great time!

That's been a subject of endless debate here on Discussions.

Firewire would indeed seem to be a step backwards, but the general consensus of opinion is that Apple did it to keep the price down to a particular point.

To be honest, with USB 2.0, you won't notice any difference.

You'll still be able to charge the iPod via a firewire connection though.
