UUp until just a few min ago the speaker on my iPad air was working just fine then it went into headphone mode how do I get it back to using is own speaker

It is possible that you may have some dust or lint stuck in the headphone jack opening. It may not be visible via external inspection. If you have a can of spray air - attempt to clean out the headphone jack (carefully) with the spray air. If you don't have a can of air - trying blowing sharply into the headphone jack to see if lint or dust comes out. Also try the other suggestions in this post for rebooting the iPhone and making sure that you do not have the phone muted.

This thing must be haunted or one of my no account kids is playing a dirty joke on me but I gave up for the night and must have forgot there was music playing because the sound came on and came on full blast to it's loudest thanks to everyone for all your help
You're welcome. Thanks for sharing the solution, I haven't had a laugh like I just had in a long time. Something to remember, music apps can play in the background so turning off the music isn't enough. Always give music apps a double click of the home button and swipe them closed. Next time the kids get funny at least the music won't wake you up in the middle of the night. Glad to hear everything worked out.
Were you using headphones ? If not check the side switch next to the volume rocker switch and check the Control Center to see if you turned on Mute.
IIf I some how turn on mute where would I go in in control center to look
If you can see my screenshot it's the tiny bell with a line through it. If instead of a bell you have a lock with a circular arrow around it then you must use the side switch to unmute your iPad.
I tried that if I plug in a set of headphones I can hear the music ever with the head phones just fine
Try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds until Your iPad starts on it's own.
I just checked with headphones and it doesn't matter if mute is on the headphones are still going to play.
I Just did that seen that in another persons suggesttions and still nothing

The side switch next to the volume control switch can be used to mute.
I Moved that switch and there's no line through the bell just says headphones
If it says headphones and you don't have headphones plugged in the headphone socket is stuck and it's time for a trip to the Apple Store to let them look at it.
