Unable to get ethernet working on a new BT Home Hub 4

I have recently had a BT Home Hub 4 and can get WiFi without any problem but unable to use my iMac through a ethernet connection.

All the tests and checks say it is connected by ethernet , but if I switch wifi off and try to use a ethernet cable it says I am not connected.

I have also tried a laptop with a ethernet cable into the BT Home Hub and it works fine.

So It looks like something has changed on my iMac which is preventing me using a network.

Any help would be much appreciated

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Shut down the Mac.

Remove the mains plug of the BT Hub from the wall socket, remove all ethernet cables except the direct connection to the Mac.

After 5 minutes power the Hub back on

Power on the Mac

when the Mac is fully booted, test the internet connection using Safari

I had FTTC fitted a few weeks ago with a HH5 and found it will not work with "DHCP with manual address" only DHCP

Also have you renewed the DHCP lease in the "Advanced" options of the Network Preferences for the ethernet

Otherwise set up the iMac using the laptop settings as they appear to work to test it is functioning

I also found the address range starts at 192.168.1.65 whereas on the HH1 I had before they started at 192.168.1.64
