The previous user user must remove his Apple ID and password from the device for you. If it was running iOS 7 or later, only he can do it. Your company should have made sure that it was erased before he left their employment. This is what the previous user must do for you.

You cannot download iWorks for free with your account. You would have to have purchased a new iOS device yourself with your own Apple ID after September 2013.
Hi The ipad may be linked to old users Apple ID Go to iTunes bottom of page is users Apple ID is still there Delete it and try and Sign in. Have you got an Apple ID If you can't sign in ipad will still be locked to his Account. If so you need his Apple Email Address & password if he has find my iPhone Turned on you need to turn that off and Reset ipad to Factory Settings Then you can set up as new. Cheers Brian
