Q: Need a copy of osx mavericks

Hi,

i'm in a little bit of trouble.

i have had a problem with my macbook hard drive and been forced to buy a new one.

i need to install mavericks over yosemite because the dj software i use for work currently does not support it.

How can i get my hands on mavericks as it is no longer in the app store?

Regards

Gareth

Unfortunately, Mavericks is no longer available. Apple will not sell a copy at this time - unless you've had Mavericks installed previously, you won't be able to download it.

And, a more important consideration: no Mac can boot from an OS older than what it came with. So if your new one came with Yosemite, it won't be able to boot from Mavericks.

And, if you do see it being sold anywhere (except the app store), then they are pirated/illegal copies and you will have problems because any app store downloads are tied to the Apple ID and password that was used to obtain them - in this case, the seller. You would never be able to reinstall the OS or update apps as you'd be prompted for that seller's Apple ID and password.

If it was installed on the new computer, then you should be able to sign in to the app store and either hit your Purchases or Updates sections - it should show up.

Was it the original OS on that computer? If so, you can also try internet recovery: hold Command + Option + R keys during bootup; once connected to Apple's servers, you use Disk Utility to wipe your drive. When done, choose to reinstall OS X - if Mavericks was the original OS, it should reinstall exactly that.
